How Spellbook Scaled Facebook Ad Performance with ContentBeta

About the Engagement

Spellbook, an AI tool specifically designed for transactional lawyers to redline contracts in Microsoft Word, required a high volume of creative assets to fuel paid campaigns. The partnership began with a focused goal: drive conversions for Spellbook’s newest product features through a mix of static display ads and brand videos.

The assignment included static display ads and brand videos for major feature launches, including “Library 1.0” and GPT-5 integration. The nuance involved translating complex AI concepts into metaphors that lawyers could immediately grasp.

Going Above and Beyond & Overcoming Creative Hurdles

While traditional agencies often charge for every minor iteration or stick to a single stylistic path, ContentBeta adapted quickly when Spellbook’s preferences shifted from animation-style graphics to “true product shots.” Instead of tweaking existing files, we pivoted the entire design strategy.

For the initial pilot project, we shared five distinct creative directions, ranging from minimalist floating pages to high-contrast neon layouts. We also produced several variations for every request, allowing Spellbook to test multiple visual and messaging angles to find stronger market fit.

The Behind-the-Scenes Process

Our creative process didn’t start with a blank canvas; we actively audited competitor ad libraries and vetted Spellbook’s historical top-performers — such as their ‘ChatGPT for Law’ campaign — to identify exactly where we could improvise on the existing visual strategy.

In terms of deliverables, we used a “Standard Delivery” window of 1–2 days for static creatives and 4–5 days for short GIF videos. This speed was supported by a dedicated account manager who also acted as a creative director to ensure all assets stayed aligned with Spellbook’s sleek dark-mode brand guidelines.

Our process was built for flexibility. For the initial “Associate Ads” project, we explored multiple design directions simultaneously, helping the team evaluate different creative identities faster.

Communication was the backbone of this speed. Beyond bi-weekly sync meetings to align on the future pipeline, we used Slack for real-time feedback and faster iterations. Static assets were often delivered within 1–2 days, while complex UI updates were completed within 24 hours.

By managing everything through ContentBeta Cloud, a centralized project management platform, Spellbook could submit new projects, manage feedback, and track deliveries in one place. This also gave the Spellbook team visibility into usage reports and credit allocation, eliminating the surprise billing often associated with traditional agencies.

For video ads, we offered unlimited revisions at every stage — Concept/Script, Storyboard, and Animation — moving forward only after receiving explicit approval from the client.

Client Experience and Business Impact

We've been using some of your ads that you created. We've changed the headlines, but then we've been using those on Facebook and they've (ads) been crushing it for us. I think that's next on my to do list today - is just to get you a bunch more things.

By refreshing the imagery for their top-performing ad titled – [title withheld for confidentiality], the new creatives “crushed it for us again,” which “made our ads improve in terms of cost per lead, in terms of conversion rate and everything like that,” Alex added.
